United Kingdom trademark questions

Does an EU trademark cover the UK?

No. Since Brexit, an EU trademark does not cover the UK, so you need a separate UK filing.

Can an overseas business file in the UK?

Yes. You need a UK address for service, which your attorney provides.

What if someone owns a similar mark?

The UKIPO may notify owners of similar earlier marks, who can oppose. Your attorney checks this risk before filing.

Renewal

Already registered in the United Kingdom?

Official renewal fee: £245, plus £60 per extra class. When: Up to 6 months before expiry. If expired: 6 months after expiry, +£60 late fee. Restoration may be possible for a further 6 months.
